Implantation cannula for magnetic seed marking of breast lesions

Magnetic seeds are used to mark breast lesions that cannot be palpated. This provides a flexible alternative to wire marking and causes less pain. Precise and reliable marking is crucial for subsequent treatment and surgical removal of the lesion.

Customer requirements:

To develop a cannula containing a magnetic seed but without risk of loss during handling and transport. The seed still needs to be capable of simple release during implantation into soft tissue. 

Our solutions:

Together with our customer we developed a stainless steel canula with custom spacer and integrated titanium stylet. sfm was able to help facilitate the process from research and development to manufacturing to final product validation. Precise markings on the cannula, a very sharp bevel, and optimized tactile feel of the plastic molding provide the best possible application support.
