Curved cannulas for medical, pharmaceutical, and biopharmaceutical applications

Bending is typically avoided during cannula production. However, certain medical and biopharmaceutical applications benefit from a controlled reproducible curve. In the medical setting, curved cannula can be found on thermos-lesion or RF ablation devices. The curvature helps to expand the coagulation/ablation field of the un-coated tip.

In the biopharmaceutical industry, curved cannula can be found as components of sterile sample collection systems. The curved cannula helps to sterile sample bioreactors and final filling solutions for pH, conductance, bioburden, cell viability, metabolites, and endotoxin content. The closed single use sampling systems provide a manufacturer with consistent, representative samples while maintaining the sterile integrity of the product throughout the while manufacturing process.

Customer requirements:

Curved cannula requests are as varied as the applications they are suited for. Customers require a reproducible, defined curvature meeting tight tolerances which is difficult due to possible variances in raw materials.

Our solutions:

In coordination with our customers, various manufacturing methods were developed and implemented to achieved verified reproducibility of the curves. With many curved cannula being a component of larger systems, logistics for further processing by the customer had to be harmonized for efficiency.
