Split cannula

A split cannula is primarily used for the placement of needle free catheters in the human body. Once the doctor inserts the split cannula to the desired location, a catheter is passed through it and subsequently the removed, split away, from the catheter. Common uses for this type of catheter are for suprapubic bladder puncture, artificial feeding tubes, and insertion of PICC (peripherally inserted central catheters) in pediatrics and neurology.

Customer requests:

An easy to split and safe to handle cannula was required. Bevel design had to be optimized for low puncture forces, especially for the large diameter cannula used in suprapubic bladder punctures.

Our solutions:

A safe and easy to split cannula was able to be developed thanks to our specially optimized manufacturing process. In addition to the predetermined breaking points, careful consideration was paid to the joining methods of the cannula to the plastic handle. For large diameter cannula, puncture forces were reduced by applying a special silicon coating to the cannula.
