Brachytherapy cannulas
Brachytherapy is a special type of radiotherapy in which the radiation source is implanted in the body directly inside or near the tumor. A brachytherapy cannula is used to precisely guide the radiation seed to the desired location.
Precise placement of the radiotherapy seeds allows for high doses of radiation to be patient tailored and optimally target tumor sites while minimizing harm to surrounding healthy tissues. Some of the indications for use of brachytherapy are in prostate, cervical, or breast cancers. In many cases, this is an effective alternative treatment to conventional radiotherapy or can be used to complement other treatment methods.
Customer requirement:
Production of application-appropriate cannula for gentle and minimally invasive seed implantation. Optimization of tactile feel for greatest possible precision while navigating to the tumor site.
Our solution:
We collaborate with our customers to tailor cannula to the respective seed size. Defined, highly visible, markings on the cannula and stylet allow for exceptionally precises seed placement. Our proficiency in metal working allows for bevel geometries that have outstanding insertion characteristics. The stylet and cannula holder can be designed to meet individual customer needs and adapted to different application systems.
