Founded as a precision mechanics shop, the company grew into a specialist for cannula and needle production and ultimately into the leading partner for the realization of high-quality disposable medical devices. Processing and finishing tubes, metal molded parts, and solid materials is in the company’s genes. Our core capabilities in this field encompass the following manufacturing methods:

Various separating processes for tubes and solid wires:
  • Thermal tearing

  • Mechanical shearing

  • Electrochemical cutting

  • Laser cutting

Machining:
  • Grinding: All bevel geometries demanded in the market can be realized with state-of-the-art grinding machines. Fully automated processes guarantee the highest level of accuracy and reproducibility.

  • Polishing and vibratory grinding

  • Electrochemical grinding

Mechanical deforming:
  • Bending of needles and cannulas

  • Sheet metal forming: Slitted tubes, used among other things for the production of splittable cannulas, are made on sfm’s own tube drawing machines. The sheet metal band is precisely shaped by forming rollers in production, producing a tube that is open on one side. Predetermined breaking points precisely integrated on the opposite side allow the tubes to be “torn open” so that split cannulas can be produced from this material.

  • Swaging: This is a method for shaping tube ends and forming a pencil point geometry. We use various methods that are applied according to the product requirements. Our many years of experience in this field set us apart as specialists for producing the pencil point bevel type. With this bevel type, the tip is fully closed by swaging. Lateral openings of various shapes and sizes can be cut into the tube through the application of additional methods.

Machining operations and surface finishing:
  • Sand and glass blasting/anti-coring

  • Electrochemical polishing/e-polishing

Cleaning of metal components:
  • Fully automated cleaning systems

  • Water jet cutting

The department covers about 1,750m². Around 70m² is taken up by the clean room. Currently, about 50 employees work in this area. There is a diverse range of manufacturing techniques which are continuously modernized and adapted to market requirements.
