PNB cannula with and without nerve stimulation
The PNB (Peripheral Nerve Block) cannula is used to perform targeted nerve blocks. In this procedure, the cannula is placed near a peripheral nerve and local anesthetic is injected temporarily blocking nerve signals. This achieves an anesthetized region of the body which is important for certain surgical/medical procedures that may not require full anesthetization. A PNB cannula can also help postoperatively for better pain control and patient comfort.
Customer requirement:
Development of several cannula in various lengths and coating designs with and without neurostimulation to improve puncture characteristics and optimal navigation to the desired nerve. Optionally available is a coating which has been shaped to improve the echogenicity of the cannula aiding in navigation to the nerve under ultrasound.
Our solution:
sfm’s extensive knowledge in metal and plastic processing allow us to produce a PNB cannula with plastic over molding that perfectly incorporates the cannula, tube, and connection cable. Markings are applied to both coated and uncoated cannula to facilitate precise depth navigation. Special “textured patterns” on the tip enhance ultrasound visibility further aiding in navigation to the nerve. PNB cannula are available with pencil point of facet cut tip geometries.
