Investments in automation, manufacturing capacity, and technical infrastructure are creating additional opportunities for production within the sfm Group.
Over the past several months, numerous projects to modernize and expand manufacturing have been implemented or initiated at the safemed medical devices s.r.o. production site in Prague. These measures range from new automated production and packaging equipment and adapted manufacturing areas to the modernization of the building’s technical infrastructure.
As the sfm Group’s second production site, safemed plays an important role in expanding manufacturing capacity. The site was already expanded in 2023 with an additional production hall, nearly doubling the production area. In addition, safemed has 1,350 square meters of cleanroom space and continuously invests in automated production machinery and inspection equipment.
New technology for nexoderm®
The current focus is on the production of nexoderm® products. A new injection mold was developed for the production of curettes. Validation of the mold was completed in June 2026.
These adaptations support the development of a flexible manufacturing structure for nexoderm®. The brand currently includes dermatological instruments such as biopsy punches and curettes.
Expansion of automated production
With the implantation cannula production machine, safemed is expanding its technical production capabilities for the manufacturing of implantation cannulas. The goal is to provide flexible capacity expansion for our OEM portfolio.
Automation is also progressing in nextaro® production. A new highly automated assembly machine has been installed.
Modernized packaging processes
The packaging area was also adapted to accommodate the integration of new equipment. Another important element is the new packaging machine, which replaces the previous line. It is equipped with a new printing system and a cleaning system for the packaging film. Packaging of implantation cannulas using Tyvek® is also planned.
Infrastructure as a foundation for further growth
In addition to the production equipment, the site’s infrastructure has also been further developed. The existing HVAC system was replaced with a new system. Following installation of the platform, assembly of the HVAC modules, and connection to the existing distribution system, the new HVAC system was successfully commissioned on August 9, 2026.
In addition, the necessary infrastructure for a new injection molding machine room has been prepared. This includes the electrical supply as well as the required cooling and heating systems. The room is intended for new injection molding machines for the production of nextaro® components.
Electrification Beyond Germany's Borders
The EV charging infrastructure at the Prague site has been expanded. Six charging points for electric vehicles have been installed and put into operation.
The current projects demonstrate how safemed is further developing its production and automation capabilities within the sfm Group. Modern equipment, flexible capacities, and a robust infrastructure provide the foundation to reliably support future customer and market requirements.
